Today we continue our exploration of the Sociology of… Happiness with some questions.
The first question was first posed to me when I gave a talk at Google during my book tour for my book on happiness:
What if I don’t know what makes me happy?
It’s a simple question, yet one I suspect many people struggle with. I get into the nuances of how to approach it in the audio recording, with a slight detour into an exploration of a career vs. a vocation.
The second question is, in a way, the inverse of the Googler’s question. Ben in Illinois asks:
I feel like I know the things that make me happy, or at least I used to. Lately, many of the things I’ve always loved just don’t seem to bring me the same joy. What does this mean? What can I do to reconnect with the stuff that made me happy — or do you think I’ve changed and need to start from scratch?
In my audio response, I outline three possible reasons for and solutions to his happiness challenge.
As always, I welcome your thoughts and advice on these questions in the comments.
