Visual Cheat Code? Beauty Premiums for Men?

Beauty Audio Advice + 1:1 Chats with Me!

Before we dive into today’s Audio Advice Column , I want to share a new perk I’m offering paid subscribers:

20-Minute Private AMA Sessions

In an effort to maximize your subscription value and create more community, I’m offering one-on-one virtual 20-minute sessions with me to all annual paid subscribers / founding members + those who have been monthly paid subscribers for over a year.

How does it work? Just respond directly to any of these emails or DM me on Substack and ask to set up a time that month (please include your time zone!). I’ll respond with that month’s availability, you choose one or wait for the next month to better align times, I send you a link, and we meet! You can do this at any point during the year.

What happens during these sessions? It’s really just a private AMA for anything related to the topics I cover here. You bring the questions, orient our conversation, and decide what we’ll cover. Impromptu chatting is also fine. Nothing is off-limits (within reason).

Will the sessions be recorded? Nope. But you are free to take notes! We’re going old school.

Have more questions? Just leave a comment on this post, and I’ll reply there.

I’m grateful for your investment in this project and want you to feel like you’re an integral part of it, while also getting to know you better. I look forward to speaking with some of you soon!

Now, onto the topic at hand: Your Sociology of… Beauty questions.

The first question comes from Beth. She asks:

I’m intrigued by the study you mentioned about the beauty premium adults experienced based on teenage attractiveness. Is your argument that while teenage attractiveness can lead to better outcomes as an adult, it’s not the only path? Can you explain the “cheat code” you suggest?

The second question is from Tobias. He says:

You note that these social beauty rules and formulas also apply to men. I agree that we also face pressure to exhibit certain visual signals, and whether we effectively do that affects many aspects of our lives. But understanding how to use beauty to your advantage as a man is confusing. Any tips?

Listen to my full responses via the link at the top and leave your thoughts in the comments.
